Yes, in food it is known to cause inflammation, IBS, leaky gut, is suspected to cause cancer and is a known food allergy (although rare). However, when applied topically to the skin, the molecular weight ($>200,000$ Daltons) is allegedly too large to penetrate and enter the bloodstream. It is likely included in this product as it acts as a breathable layer from a natural ingredient source to lock in moisture (as opposed to a synthetic or petroleum based ingredient).
